Balancing school/work & your relationship with God.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” {Matthew‬ ‭6:33-34‬}

Life as a student, worker, blogger, social media influencer, etc. can be super busy and fulfill a lot of your time. Life is full of to-do lists and because of this is can sometimes be hard to always prioritize our relationship with God, and make sure we are spending quality time in His presence.

As a Christian, the Lord wants you to do your very best at whatever your doing – but He never wants you to prioritize those things over spending time with Him.

So how can you prioritize all your responsibilities, while also making time to spend with our heavenly Father?

Don’t overload your schedule & make time to rest.

I think we all can agree that we often put way too much on our plate and completely stress ourselves out. When we start to get busy schedules we often start to prioritize certain things over others. This often means we push spending time with God to the bottom, and everything else over that.

Spending time with God is the most important thing, and we should prioritize that over everything else.

Taking time to rest, and spend quality time with God is SO incredibly important.

Create a quiet time, and stick to it.

Finding a way to spend time with God in a way that works for you is very important. (If you need help with ways to connect with God, read my blog post titled “Connecting with God daily. Quiet time ideas.” )

I highly encourage you to pick how to spend time with God, and stick to doing it daily. Pick a time throughout the day to do it! – I feel like often times when it comes time to do our quiet time we just say “I’m too tired. I will do it later.” and we never do it.

Some people like to wake up early and connect with God before they get their day started. Others like to do it at night before they go to bed. You may even prefer to do it in between practices, work, etc. Whatever time that works best for you stick with it.

Finding a quiet time, and not sticking with it isn’t good though. We have to honor the time we have planned for the Lord each and every day. Connecting with our Father, and worshipping Him can help us grow a better relationship, and through that God can teach us so much along the way.

Challenge yourself to pray daily.

Prayer is the way we communicate with God and prayer is such a powerful way to connect and talk with God.

I often find my mind racing and thinking about everything I have going on that day, or going over notes in my head. This is a perfect time to spend with God in prayer. God knows what you need before you even ask Him, and He wants you to connect with Him.

1 John 5:14-15 says “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

This verse should give us so much strength, peace, and comfort knowing that if we speak to God through prayer He will hear us. He is always listening, and always there for you no matter what your circumstances are.

Make attending church a commitment. Get plugged in.

It is SO easy to sleep in on a Sunday morning, and not go to church on a regular basis. Especially after a really long weekend. But, attending church is such an important way to grow your relationship with God. Instead of pushing the snooze button, make it a priority to go to church.

Finding a church home is super important. If you honestly don’t like Sunday morning church, attending on Sunday nights and Wednesday nights are great as well!

If you truly want to strengthen your relationship with the Lord, you have to put in the effort. Attending church regularly and making it a priority can impact and strengthen your faith in a huge way!

Worship God through little things.

Connecting with God in the little ways can be so impactful as well. Here are some of the small things I do daily to spend time with God:

  • playing worship music in my car.
  • praying right after you wake up or go to sleep.
  • setting bible verses as your lock screen.
  • reading christian books or devotionals

These things are so simple, but can be so easy to fit into your schedule to make sure you are spending time with God daily!

I think we can all agree life as a high school or college student, employee, etc. can be very busy and fulfill lots of our time… But, there is always time to fit God into your schedule. I hope this is an encouragement for you, and can help you prioritize spending time with God over the other things on your to-do list.

Spending time with God daily, even when you are sure busy is super important in growing a strong relationship with Christ.
