Grow in Prayer.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” {Philippians 4:6}

One of the greatest privileges as children is we are able to talk with our Father. I mean how amazing is it that we can talk to God?!

God isn’t going to worry, but we still need to pray to Him because we worry. I’ve unnecessarily worried about things and been filled with anxiety and fear. But when we worry we aren’t giving God all of our trust and allowing Him to guide us. God is in control of every circumstance that is in your life. Trusting God is such an important step in our relationship with Him. Something I have learned as a follower of Christ is if we turn your worries into prayers, we will not have fear and won’t be worried with what’s to come. Next time you are filled with fear and worry turn it into a prayer. Let Him know you don’t know what to do, but you trust Him to guide you where He wants you to go.

I have been through personal experiences where it has been so hard to trust the path God is leading me down. Our world is so hard to live in. It can be hard to turn away from temptations, friendships, etc.. but if God is leading you there: Go with Him! Prayer is such a powerful thing, and through these situations talking with God can help you overcome the darkness.

We can pray with our eyes open, or we can pray with our eyes closed. We can pray anywhere, anytime, the main thing to do is just pray. God will hear you anywhere. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says “pray without ceasing.” This to me says God will hear you wherever you are. God just wants you to talk to Him. You are a child of God, and He is going to guide you where you need to go.

I feel like a lot of people ask the question: “Why do we pray?” The simple answer is, because Jesus told us to. Jesus himself was always praying. If Jesus felt the need to pray, then shouldn’t we too? We are commanded to pray, so we should pray. Going through some of the most darkest times in my life, it was so hard for me to pray and trust Him. I thought He wasn’t there and He wasn’t going to help me get through a tough situation. But, through time He provided, as He always does. Prayer is not something that is difficult or painful, so pray and don’t give up.

Something that we have to make sure we are doing when we pray, is staying true to the will of God. In Matthew 6:9-10 Jesus modeled prayer for us “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” When we pray I feel like we often get caught up in the fact of telling God what we want and not what we need. We don’t always know what is right, but our Heavenly Father knows all good things, and will sometimes overrule our prayers for our own good! This is something I think a lot of people deal with. I have heard many people say “I pray, but God never gives me what I want and asked for.” God isn’t going to always give you what you want or what you ask for. He is going to give you what you need to go on the perfect path He has planned for you.

Don’t be afraid to pray and to speak to God. Sometimes He will answer differently than we wanted or thought He would, but the point isn’t to get God to do what we want Him to. The objective of prayer is telling the Lord you need him and letting Him guide you to the perfect destination. When we find God’s will and start praying we will see our prayers be answered and see God’s unconditional love for us.

Prayer is surrender, surrender to the will of God. God wants you to be a part of the process. Matthew 6:11 says “Give us this day our daily bread.” – There is always a place for prayer for personal needs as well. Maybe there is a point in your life where you have let sin work its way into your life, and your prayer life hasn’t been the strongest and it has come to a stop. If you want to reconnect with God again, then you need to pray to Him and confess your sins. 1 John 1:9 says “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” If we talk with God and confess our sins, He will be faithful to us and forgive us no matter how rough the situation is.

God wants a relationship with each and everyone of you, and prayer is communication with Him. Have you ever prayed to God, and it seemed like it took a long time for Him to answer? Or, have you ever prayed, and the answer came so quickly that you were surprised? God hears our prayers always. He might not answer right away, or how you wanted Him to, but He knows the best possible plan for you and will help guide you there. No prayer is wasted!

Praying to God and talking with Him on a day-to day basis is so important! I encourage you to text or call a friend every night for one week, and ask them how you can pray for them. Pray for a friend every night for one week, and you will see your relationship with God grow. Your prayer could be as simple as “Lord, I’m lost and I need you to help guide me.” He will answer your prayers and help you!

I created a google form where anyone can submit prayer requests at any time, so I can pray for you! If you have any prayer requests click on the link and leave your requests! 🙂

Pray and connect with God – He wants a relationship with you.

Lots of love, Carsyn!
